Malaysian delegation, led by YBhg. Datuk Mohd Zamri Mat Zain, Deputy Secretary General (Tourism) of MOTAC participated in the ASEAN-Japan Tourism Ministers’ Special Dialogue in Tokyo, Japan on 28 October 2023. Held in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, the dialogue discussed the promotion of sustainable tourism and mutual exchanges, towards enhancing tourism exchange between ASEAN and Japan in the post-pandemic era.
In its intervention, Malaysia suggested for ASEAN and Japan to work collaboratively towards achieving sustainable tourism development goals by harnessing tourism resources, revitalising tourism industry through strategic regional initiatives, enhancing tourism workforce, cultivating community’s understanding on tourism’s benefits and pursuing evidence-based destination management.
Besides that, Malaysia also suggested for ASEAN and Japan to work together to foster mutual tourism exchange by developing appealing products and safe environment, effective promotional strategies and expanding tourism exchange across domains such as business partnerships, educational exchanges, joint research initiatives, cultural exchanges as well as thematic tourism events.
In the occasion, Datuk Zamri presenting a memento of appreciation to Hon. Mr Tetsuo Saito, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan.
